Citizens Information Board participates in annual Media Literacy Ireland Awards
The Citizens Information Board (CIB) was delighted to participate in a judging panel for the annual Media Literacy Ireland awards which took place in Virgin Media Television on 6 October.
The Media Literacy Ireland awards are a celebration of work that empowers people, particularly in communities, with the skills to use, understand, create and participate in media.
Emma Allen, CIB joined Robert Carey, North East & West Kerry Development and Jane McGarrigle, Webwise to judge the category 'Best General Media Literacy Initiative' which was open to any initiative (including projects, resources, training, research or campaigns) which helped (directly or indirectly) to empower people with the skills to use, understand, create or participate in media.
#DiscussAI: A National Conversation was announced the winner with the judges saying: "This is an inclusive, well-researched, creative approach to AI literacy. With meaningful engagement from a range of stakeholders, it has the potential to reach and connect with diverse audiences across different age groups and demographics."
Highly commended in this category was 'Storytelling and Creative Media', a project by Dublin and Dún Laoghaire ETB. The judges said: "This initiative represents a very inclusive, heartfelt, creative, lifelong learning and hands-on approach to media literacy, with a strong emphasis on practical media production skills that successfully built confidence and skills among participants with different learning needs."
Media Literacy Ireland is an informal alliance of individuals and organisations who work together to promote media literacy in Ireland and is facilitated by Coimisiún na Meán.
