Citizens Information Board celebrates 25 years of the Comhairle Act, 2000

Today, Thursday 12th June, marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Comhairle. Comhairle was formed by combining the functions of the National Rehabilitation Board (NRB) and the National Social Services Board (NSSB) and became the statutory body supporting the provision of information, advice and advocacy on a broad range of public and social services. The Citizens Information Board (CIB) is a statutory body operating under the aegis of the Department of Social Protection (DSP). CIB expresses its gratitude to the Minister for Social Protection, Dara Calleary TD, and his colleagues in the DSP for their continued support and guidance.

As part of the Citizens Information Act 2007, Comhairle was renamed as the Citizens Information Board (CIB), an Bord um Fhaisnéis do Shaoránaigh (BFS).

Over the 25 years, many staff members and members of the Board have contributed to the development and achievements of the organisation. We would like to extend our thanks to each of these staff and Board members.

Also over the 25 years, CIB has worked together with a wide range of companies to provide services to members of the public. Today, we fund and support twenty-two companies limited by guarantee:

CIB would like to extend its appreciation to the staff, volunteers, scheme workers and boards of directors, past and present, that have brought CIB’s legislative mandate to life for 25 years.

CIB remains steadfast in its commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of people living in Ireland for years to come and meeting our vision of an Ireland where everyone has seamless access to a trusted, independent source of information, advice and advocacy.
