Accessibility Statement
Introduction
The Citizens Information Board is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the European Union (Accessibility of Websites and Mobile Applications of Public Sector Bodies) Regulations 2020.
We want our content to be available to the widest possible audience, including people who use assistive technologies.
Scope
This accessibility statement applies to the citizensinformationboard.ie website.
Compliance status
citizensinformationboard.ie is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.
We are developing a new CIB website that is being built to fully meet WCAG 2.1 level AA. Launch is planned for Q4 2026 (to be confirmed). This statement will be updated following the independent accessibility audit planned for Q3 2026, and again following the launch of the new website.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:
A) Non-compliance with the 2020 Regulations
A full independent accessibility audit of citizensinformationboard.ie has not yet been carried out. The website is currently being redeveloped. We are aware that the following categories of content on the current site have not yet been formally tested against WCAG 2.1 level AA and may include non-compliances:
- PDF documents and other office file format documents published on the site.
- Page templates, navigation, and embedded components on the current CIB website.
- Interactive elements such as forms and search functionality.
Specific non-compliances, the WCAG success criteria they relate to, the pages affected, and target remediation dates will be listed here when the new website replaces the current one.
B) Disproportionate burden
The Citizens Information Board is not claiming any disproportionate burden exemptions in relation to citizensinformationboard.ie.
C) Content not within the scope of the 2020 Regulations
Content on citizensinformationboard.ie that may fall outside the scope of the applicable legislation has not yet been formally identified. Categories that are excluded from the scope of the 2020 Regulations, and that may apply to content on our site, include:
- Third-party content that is neither funded nor developed by, nor under the control of, the Citizens Information Board.
- Pre-recorded video published before 23 September 2018.
- Office file format documents published before 23 September 2018, unless required for active administrative processes.
This section will be updated following the Q3 2026 audit to confirm which categories, if any, apply to specific content on citizensinformationboard.ie.

Enforcement procedure

Measures to support accessibility
The Citizens Information Board takes the following measures to support the accessibility of citizensinformationboard.ie:
- Accessibility is included in our internal policies and processes.
- We publish HTML webpages as standard, and reduce the use of printed materials and PDFs as far as possible. Where PDFs are used, we work to ensure they meet a high standard of accessibility.
- We have engaged with an external accessibility partner who will carry out a full independent accessibility audit of citizensinformationboard.ie in Q3 2026, assessing conformance with WCAG 2.1 level AA.
- A new CIB website, being built with accessibility integrated throughout its design and development, is planned for launch later in 2026.
