CIB welcomes 4-year extension of the Abhaile Scheme

The Citizens Information Board (CIB) welcomes the Government decision to extend the Abhaile scheme including the Dedicated Mortgage Arrears initiative for four years.

Abhaile helps people who are in mortgage arrears to find a solution and stay in their homes where possible. Established in 2016, the scheme is accessed through Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS) and includes support from a MABS dedicated mortgage adviser as well as legal advice and insolvency advice.

Speaking following the announcement, Fiona Coyne, Chief Executive of CIB, said:

“This announcement is a welcome commitment to the ongoing work of MABS as a trusted service for those experiencing mortgage arrears. Their expertise and support have had a real impact on people’s lives. CIB looks forward to continuing our work with MABS to deliver this critical service over the next four years."

The Abhaile scheme is funded by the Department of Social Protection and the Department of Justice, and is implemented by the Citizens Information Board, MABS, the Insolvency Service of Ireland, the Legal Aid Board and the Courts Service.

MABS can be contacted on 0818 07 2000, Monday to Friday, 9am to 8pm or go to mabs.ie to find your nearest MABS office.
