Citizens Information Mobile Service reaches out in County Clare

September 2016

The number of people contacting Clare CIS seeking assistance with accessing their rights and entitlements has increased for the first six months of this year. The CIS mobile information unit contributes to the rising number of people who are helped and recently rolled in to towns around the county recently.

The unit is part of the Citizens Information Service efforts to make the service as accessible as possible and continues to be used extensively by the public throughout the county. The mobile unit is stocked with a wide range of application forms, Information booklets and leaflets and staff are on hand to answer queries and give advice to members of the public. "The objective is to try to reach out to rural areas of the County to ensure that all citizens have easy access to good quality information, advice and advocacy. Our objective is to ensure that all citizens are fully aware of their rights and advised and assisted when the need arises to avail of the benefits or allowances to which they are entitled", added Paul Ryan, Information officer. "The service is purely for the convenience of those who do not normally have easy access to information services around the county or who would find it’s hard to visit the main offices in Shannon and Ennis", he added.

In addition, the service regularly visits community groups around the county to give information talks on a range of topics and holds weekly outreaches in Ennistymon, Lisdoonvarna, and Killaloe.

The Citizens Information Service provides free independent information and advice in relation to health, social welfare, housing, taxation, consumer matters, employment rights and local information.
