Citizens Information and MABS attend record breaking year for National Ploughing Championships 2015

October 2015

The Citizens Information Service and the Money Advice and Budgeting Service were on hand to offer independent information and advice to the record number of people who attended the National Ploughing Championships from September 22 to 24. More than 281,00 people attended the event over the three days. This made it the most successful National Ploughing Championships in history.

This year staff from the Citizens Information Phone Service and the Citizens Information Board joined colleagues from Carlow, Kilkenny and Laois CIS and Kilkenny and Carlow MABS. The Insolvency Service of Ireland also had a stand in the Citizens First marquee.

The Citizens Information Service dealt with a wide range of queries from visitors to the marquee – focusing in particular on pensions, tax, social welfare and entitlements for people with disabilities. Likewise the Money Advice and Budgeting Service assisted people with concerns over debt issues, including mortgage debt. On the Wednesday the Tánaiste, Joan Burton T.D., visited the marquee and complimented the work of all.

The NPA Managing Director Anna May McHugh, delighted by the record breaking attendance, announced that the 85th National Ploughing Championships would be held in Screggan, Tullamore, Co. Offaly from September 20 to 22, 2016.
