Response to article in the Irish Daily Mail, 30 August 2018
An article was published in the Irish Daily Mail today (30 August 2018) which stated that the Citizens Information Board is under investigation by the Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG) for overspending.
The Citizens Information Board would like to confirm that the organisation is not under investigation for overspending or for any other issue. The Citizens Information Board’s draft accounts for 2017 are currently being reviewed by the C&AG in line with normal procedures.
In addition, the article describes "an alleged €8million in spending" in 2017 in relation to the restructuring of the Money Advice and Budgeting Services (MABS) and the Citizens Information Services (CIS).
The spend on this project in 2017 was €103,363, including accruals. In line with its statutory remit, the Citizens Information Board has proceeded with restructuring the MABS and CIS companies. To date, a total of 38 companies have been restructured into 6 regional companies.
