Level 2
Courses at Level 2 are for Information Providers who have completed the Information Providers Programme (IPP) and have a good understanding of the course topic or have at least one year's experience of giving information to the public.

Aim    
This training is to give participants an understanding of the practical knowledge and skills involved in representing and negotiating on behalf of clients.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course participants should be able to:

  • identify the needs and intentions of the client
  • evaluate a client's ability to self-advocate
  • devise strategy for determining the needs and intentions of the other party
  • outline the stages of research, negotiation and strategy development
  • demonstrate basic skills in interviewing, negotiation, record keeping and planning in an advocacy context 
  • illustrate how to improve relationships while negotiating
  • plan the negotiation strategy
  • outline the steps involved in preparing a case for a formal hearing
  • demonstrate how to represent a client at a formal setting
  • use conflict resolution skills
  • illustrate how to close negotiations and record outcomes
