Managing People within a Service

This course is developed for managers in Citizens Information Services (CIS); Money Advice and budgeting Services (MABS) and Regional Managers of the National Advocacy Service for People with Disabilities who have no formal training in human resource management but are keen to develop this part of their managerial role.

Aim    
This training is to assist service managers develop skills that will enable them to effectively manage people within their service.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course participants should be able to:

  • explain the life cycle of people management
  • identify their own role in the cycle
  • explain the importance of regular 'support and supervision' sessions in motivating and managing staff and volunteers
  • outline the four reasons why people underperform
  • explain an appropriate remedy for each reason
  • explain the principles of effective communication
  • use effective listening and questioning techniques
  • compile an Action Plan for improved people management.
