Aim    
Using a Case Study approach to provide participants with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to provide an integrated approach to supporting people who are unemployed. 

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course participants should be able to:

  • explain clearly the criteria for how to qualify for Jobseekers Benefit
  • Calculate Jobseekers Benefit for those who have been made redundant, put on systematic short time working or offered casual work
  • explain the transition from Jobseekers Benefit to Jobseekers Allowance and how income and assets are means tested
  • calculate Family Income Supplement for working families on low pay and for working spouses/partners of those on jobseeker's payments
  • explain the eligibility criteria for Community Employment Schemes and Education and Work Options available through FAS.
  • outline the consequences of taking up employment whilst on the above Schemes/Training Programmes.
  • explain eligibility criteria for HSE Services such as Rent/Mortgage Interest Supplement, Medical Cards and GP Visit Cards and other services provided by Community Welfare Officers
