Aim    
To provide participants with an understanding of the Social Welfare Appeals System, its structures, procedures and practices.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course participants should be able to:

  • explain the role and function of the Social Welfare Appeals Office
  • outline the major cases for appeal
  • identify the steps required to make an appeal
  • explain the procedures at an oral hearing
  • research/plan and present information effectively and comprehensively for presentation to Social Welfare Appeal's Officer
  • identify the determinants which shape The Appeal Officer's final decision and pay particular attention to the conclusions
