A demographic revolution is underway throughout the world. There are around 600 million people aged 60 years and over and this figure is set to rise to approximately 2 billion by 2050. International Day of Older Persons (1 October) marks the importance of this age group and the critical role they play in society.
In Ireland, Positive Ageing Week has also marked the importance of this age group and now the Citizens Information Board has published entitlements for over sixties. This booklet explains as clearly as possible the various income support payments, benefits and other services available to people over 60 in Ireland. It is a practical guide that includes information on qualifying for a state pension , early retirement, benefits in kind, health services, tax, legal matters, equal status and equality.
The book is produced by the Citizens Information Board as part of their entitlements series - empowering citizens to obtain access to information on their rights and entitlements. Among the chapter headings are Health and Community Care Services, Transport and Travel, Decision Making, Housing and Occupational and Personal Pensions.
30,000 copies of entitlements for over sixties are being distributed through the nationwide network of Citizens Information Centres, which are supported by the Citizens Information Board and are available free to the public on request.
Copies are also available by contacting the Citizens Information Board at (01) 605 9000 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
