Northside CIS promoting their service via YouTube

March 2016

Northside Citizens Information Service is based in the Northside Civic Centre, Coolock, Dublin 17. It first opened its doors to the public 17 years ago. "Since then we have seen an increasing demand for the services that we provide as well as an increased level of complexity in the type of queries that we deal with", said Cristina Santamaria, Manager of the service.

In 2015, over 12,000 people used the Northside CIS with almost 16,000 queries being dealt with by information officers at the centre. The queries range from social welfare to health, education and employment. Some queries can be resolved straight away while others are more in depth and involve case-based work. Currently Northside CIS is involved with 43 advocacy cases.

"It is more important than ever for us to promote the service to as wide an audience as possible and we are always looking to innovate and find new ways to reach out to our community. Our latest promotion on YouTube is another way to raise awareness of our service and remain relevant to our service users. YouTube is one of the most popular online platforms with visitors watching over 6 billion hours of video every month" added Cristina.

"We are lucky to be based in the Northside Civic Centre which facilitates our interagency work on behalf of clients. We can liaise directly with a number of relevant services that are also located in this building. Services such as our local Intreo office, Dublin City Council, the Northside Community Law & Mediation Centre and Dublin North East MABS, all of whom we have very close cross-referral links."
