Crumlin Citizens Information Services Celebrates its 40th Anniversary

July 2015

The Dublin 12 & 6w (Crumlin) Citizens Information Service formally known as Crumlin CIC has recently celebrated its 40th Anniversary. Started in 1974 by a local priest Father Roughneen and officially opened in 1975 by Mrs Rita Childers the Centre was staffed then by local volunteers.

In 1993 under the direction of the National Social Services Board (now Citizens Information Board) a new service was launched by President Mary Robinson. The Centre located then at 146 Sundrive Road was firmly established as a major resource covering all of Dublin 12 and surrounding areas.

During 2009 an outreach service was established in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin. This was and continues to be much appreciated by the Medical Social Work Department in the hospital. The service changed its name from Crumlin CIC to Dublin 12 & 6w CIS and moved to larger more spacious premises located at 8, Sundrive Road in late 2012.

Past and present staff attended the celebration. Sr Angela Durkin who presided as Chairperson during the developmental stage in the nineties was given a particular mention. Speaking at the celebration event Angela Black, Chief Executive, CIB said: "You have all created an exemplary information, advice and advocacy service in Dublin 12 & 6W. It is a service that has seen much development in recent years, particularly with your move to these premises which coincided with the appointment of TÚS workers to cover reception duties and it is a service that will continue to expand and develop, meeting new needs and facing new challenges."
