The Money Advice and Budgeting service celebrated the first graduation of its Money Advice staff with the new Advanced Diploma in Money Advice Practice awarded by the University of Ulster, this month. In recognition of this achievement, Minister of State for Social Protection Kevin Humphries (T.D.) attended the event in the Marino Institute of Education Dublin. Guest speakers included Stephen Kinsella, Economist, University of Limerick, Angela Black, Chief Executive, Michael McQuillan, Director of the Business School, Ulster University and Karl Cronin, Coordinator of Cavan MABS and graduate of the diploma.
MABS money advisers support people in money management and dealing with difficult debt situations. The service is free, independent, non-judgemental and confidential. MABS works with a very strong network of other support agencies across the community and works with every major creditor group.
"We're very aware of the need to provide continuous development opportunities to staff and to always build competencies in MABS" stated Patrick Power, MABS Training and Development Manager. "This qualification represents the value that we place in providing high quality training and education to our staff. We are delighted that it is independently accredited by a recognised third level body such as Ulster University".
22 graduates were recognised at the event in Marino. The Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS) is funded and supported by the Citizens Information Board.
