Citizens Information Board legislation

The organisation was established as a statutory body under the Comhairle Act 2000. This Act was amended by the Citizens Information Act 2007 (pdf), which changed the name of the organisation to the Citizens Information Board, and by the Social Welfare and Pensions Act 2011, which amended the rules relating to membership of the Citizens Information Board.

The Citizens Information Act 2007 also sets out the development of the advocacy service for people with a disability and how the Board decides the terms and conditions under which information, advice and advocacy services are provided by Citizens Information Services and other voluntary bodies. In 2008 the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2008 (pdf) extended the existing acts to give the Citizens Information Board responsibility for the Money Advice and Budgeting Service.

Reachtaíocht maidir leis an mBord um Fhaisnéis do Shaoránaigh

Bunaíodh an eagraíocht mar chomhlacht reachtúil faoin Acht um Chomhairle 2000. Leasaíodh an tAcht ag an Acht um Fhaisnéis do Shaoránaigh 2007 (pdf) a d'athraigh ainm na heagraíochta go dtí an Bord um Fhaisnéis do Shaoránaigh agus ag an Acht Leasa Shóisialaigh agus Pinsean 2011 a d'athraigh na rialacha le haghaidh ballraíochta an Bhoird um Fhaisnéis do Shaoránaigh.

Leagann an tAcht um Fhaisnéis do Shaoránaigh 2007 síos an forbairt seirbhíse abhcóideachta do dhaoine faoi mhíchumas agus conas a dhéanfaidh an Bord cinneadh faoi na téarmaí agus na coinníollacha ina gcuirfidh na Seirbhísí um Fhaisnéis do Shaoránaigh agus eagraíochtaí deonacha eile faisnéis, comhairle agus seirbhísí abhcóideachta ar fáil. I 2008 rinne an tAcht Leasa Shóisialaigh (Forálacha Ilghnéitheacha) 2008 (pdf) leathnú ar na n-achtanna a bhí ann cheana chun go mbeadh an Bord um Fhaisnéis do Shaoránaigh freagrach as an tSeirbhís Buiséadaithe agus Comhairle Airgid.
